The first Annual DC Bike Ride will be held on May 22, 2016 from 8am to 1pm. The registration cost is $60 per person and the proceeds go to the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) to further their street safety campaign.
This is an unusual opportunity to enjoy cruising around Washington, DC streets absent the ubiquitous vehicles that can intimidate novice bikers like me. We’ll start at the Capitol and moving at our own pace, we’ll get to enjoy some of the world’s most beautiful monuments in the springtime. The ride ends on Pennsylvania Avenue near the Capitol with a big celebration at the Finish Line. There will be food, drinks, music and other entertainment.
Although I’m not yet especially confident that I can personally accomplish this 17 mile challenge, I’m all in! I’ve pumped up my tires and started biking around the neighborhood-- increasing my mileage and duration gradually with each bike ride. I’m almost certain I will be able to do this, so, I am challenging all my fellow DC Explorers to join me in this endeavor. Everyone is encouraged to participate--experienced riders and novice riders like me. Even if you don’t have a bike consider borrowing one from a friend, or renting one through Capitol Bike Share or Bike and Roll.

It’s going to be a beautiful spring in the DC area so let’s take to two wheels and explore and enjoy it together!
